Metal roofing costs more up front than asphalt and pays it back in lifespan and low maintenance. On the coast, where salt air and wind are hard on everything, it is often the roof that makes the most sense.

What matters here in Oregon
Metal sheds what our roofs struggle with: fir and cedar needles slide off instead of composting in the valleys, and moss cannot get a grip on a smooth painted panel the way it does on granulated shingle.
Near Newport, Lincoln City, and Depoe Bay, salt air corrodes the wrong metal fast. We spec PVDF-coated steel or aluminum rated for marine exposure, with stainless or coated fasteners, not bare galvanized.
Metal also works on low-slope sections where shingles cannot go, and it handles the wind-driven rain that comes off the Coast Range better than a nailed shingle field.
How it goes
The process, start to finish
- Quote and profile. We measure, discuss standing seam versus metal shingle, and price it in writing.
- Order. Panels are formed to your roof's dimensions and coating spec.
- Tear-off and dry-in. Old roof off, deck checked, high-temp underlayment down.
- Panel install. Clips, panels, and trim set to allow for thermal movement.
- Flashing and finish. Ridge, hips, valleys, and penetrations flashed and sealed. Cleanup and warranty.

Good to know
How much more does metal cost than shingle?
Roughly two to three times the material and labor of an architectural asphalt roof, depending on the profile. Over a 50-year horizon it is usually the cheaper roof.
Is a metal roof loud in the rain?
Not on a house. It is installed over solid decking and underlayment, not open purlins like a barn, so the sound is similar to any other roof indoors.
Will it corrode near the coast?
Not if it is specified for marine exposure. PVDF-coated steel or aluminum with the right fasteners holds up. Bare or cheaply coated metal does not, which is why the spec matters.
Can metal go over my existing roof?
Sometimes, over a single layer of flat shingle with the right framing. We will tell you after we inspect. A tear-off is still the cleaner result.
