Architectural, or dimensional, asphalt shingles are the default choice for most homes in the Willamette Valley. They look good, the cost is reasonable, and a proper install lasts. The difference between a 15-year roof and a 30-year roof is almost entirely in the prep and the details underneath.

What matters here in Oregon
Ask for algae-resistant shingles here. Our damp, shaded roofs grow the black streaking (gloeocapsa magma) and moss faster than a sunny climate, and AR shingles have copper granules that slow it down for years.
A well-installed architectural roof gets 25 to 30 years of real service in the valley if the attic is vented and the moss is kept off. Skip the ventilation or let moss build up and you can lose ten years of that.
Three-tab shingles are cheaper but thinner and shorter-lived, and they hold moss more readily. We steer homeowners to architectural shingles for this climate.
How it goes
The process, start to finish
- Quote. We measure, look at the deck and attic, and give you an itemized written estimate.
- Choose. Pick the shingle line and color from samples. We order it.
- Tear-off and dry-in. Old roof off, deck checked, membrane and underlayment down.
- Install. Starter, field shingles, flashing, ridge vent, and cap, nailed to spec.
- Clean and warranty. Magnet sweep, haul-away, walk-through, and paperwork.

How long do asphalt shingles last here?
A quality architectural roof gets 25 to 30 years in the valley with proper ventilation and moss control. Neglect either and it is closer to 18 to 20.
What are AR shingles?
Algae-resistant. Copper granules are blended into the shingle to slow the black streaking and moss that thrive in our shade. Worth it in this climate.
Can you roof over my existing shingles?
We do not recommend it in Oregon. It hides deck rot and traps moisture. A tear-off costs more now and saves the roof later.
What colors can I get?
Every major line has a full range. Weathered wood, driftwood, and slate greys are the popular choices on valley homes. We bring samples.
